Taking Stock

Every-so-often
I feel the urge
To shovel regret away
Like old shit
Banish it from my life
Moving on
Creating new opportunities
Remaining true
To life’s realities

Once-in-a-while
I feel the urge
To repress depression
Like old rubbish
Banish is from my life
Moving along
Building a solid identity
Remaining true
To life’s realities

Every day
I feel the urge
To remain positive
Life renewed
Inviting energy into my life
Moving on
Surviving the usual calamities
Remaining true
To life’s realities

Coping Strategies

Very often
Our natural instinct
Is to laugh away
The pain
Sudden loss
Certainly
No gain
Our coping mechanisms
Offers
No refrain

Occasionally
We lash out
Searching for a place
To leave the blame
Unexpected tragedy
Certainly
No game
Our coping mechanisms
Requires
No refrain

A View Too Simplistic?

A simplistic view

Death
A preoccupation of the living

Life
The worry of the nearly dying

Loss
The reality of the remaining

Living
The challenge of the breathing

By Simone Beatrice Naik Hagfeldt, 2013-09-29.

What are the aspirations of a dying soul?
Maybe making peace with the inner self

Finding acceptance
With unfulfilled dreams

Creating harmony
Within the family

Searching opportunities
To make amends

Chasing away
Old demons

Completing the final steps
To leave a legacy

Living every day
As if there is not tomorrow

It takes much more than talk to change the world

Sustainable Development is like the elephant in the room. Society is aware of how we can change our attitude and behaviour, make better choices and understand our collective imprint on mother earth, but we are trapped in a Catch 22. Creature comforts, favourite foods, luxury goods and services are all the things we aspire for! I am as guilty as the next person, but the truth and the reality is that all of us will make an impact on this earth and our individual lives will create a disturbance of some kind. The questions begging are… Can we minimise that impact? Are we able to disconnect our natural and acquired tastes and instincts? Are we willing to sacrifice the technological gains and efficiencies in order to stop this path of destruction?

I trip over my tongue
Trying to say your big words to save the world

I nearly fall over
Expecting to understand the concepts you so easily spew

I wager quietly
On what will be the next catchphrase you expect me to buy

I continue to wonder
Who are the 'they' and when can I confront the 'we' who 'are the earth destroying'

I understand the voices
In everything we have to have a dialogue in an attempt to demystify

I try to comprehend
My role in changing ideas and ‘being the change’
