Winter in my soul

The trees are sprinkled with icing sugar
Rocks layered in vanilla frosting
Every wetland
Volunteered to be an ice rink
A new moon
Makes
Winter disappear
Every time
I blink

Roofs are sprinkled with fresh snow
The cold wind
Barely blows
Frozen soil
Cannot be toiled
Every breath
Blows clouds
The living
Need no shrouds

Brittle grass snaps like syrup candy
The sun pitches rays of lightning
Triggering minor avalanches
Every waking hour
Thumping
Dull and dour
Before long
The new moon promised
We will
Have more light
Expectant sympathy
Easing my soul’s
Plight
